Taking pictures of vast landscapes like the Grand Canyon, Iceland, and now the Great Smoky Mountain's gets to feel pretty futile after a while. It's one of those things where you just have to get out and see in person I guess. Its been less than a month and I already miss the rolling green hills of Tennessee, the smoky fog along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the nomnomnom BBQ in Pigeon Forge.
We spent time in Greenville, SC and drove up to Asheville, NC where we had some pretty spectacular donuts. We visited the Sierra Nevada brewery, drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and ended up in Gatlinburg, TN.
We hiked the Grotto Falls trail that was dense and lush with streams, plants, and waterfalls--totally different than what I was expecting. Hiking along the spine of the Appalachian Trail to Charlies Bunion was surreal--areas of moss and trickling streams and then spots of flat prairie. It was beautiful and tiring but well worth the views.
The mountains are calling, take me back! The Smoky's actually reminded me a lot of Minnesota, so at least I can pretend.. ; )
